Hearing Aid Styles

Each patient that is treated at Oliveira Audiology & Hearing Center, PLLC is given unique hearing aid style recommendations based on their audiological and lifestyle needs. One might be a young child born with hearing loss, and another might be an elderly individual just beginning to lose his or her hearing. Some patients might be able to hear quite a bit of different sounds already and others may not be able to make out any sounds on their own. Because each situation is unique, we have personalized solutions tailored for each patient.

Behind the Ear (BTE)

BTE hearing aids are a traditional option that have been around for quite a while. Worn behind the ear, this device can be instrumental for individuals with a variety of different types of hearing loss. It is larger than others, but that makes it more powerful, and easier to use as well. BTE devices are beneficial for young children, older individuals, and anyone in between.

Receiver in Canal (RIC)

RIC aids have an unnoticeable design created for people with mild to moderate hearing loss. The RIC aid is a type of BTE that is smaller with a narrower tube that goes directly into the ear canal, offering a better quality of hearing.

In the Ear (ITE)

ITE hearing aids have a snug fit that is perfectly shaped to the outer ear’s bowl-shaped area. Patients with mild to severe hearing loss can benefit from ITE aids, though they are more visible than other types. Because of where they go in the outer ear, they are easier to insert. Adjustability and a longer battery life are just two of the features that make ITE aids desirable among many patients. Older patients particularly like these devices because of how easy they are to care for and install.
